Privacy policy
How we handle your information.
1Introduction
This Privacy Policy sets out what the Essington Institute collects when you use this website or send us information, how we use it, and how you can exercise your rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. The website is operated by Essington Institute Limited (ACN 700 309 459), a company limited by guarantee (“the Institute”, “we”).
2Information we collect
We collect information you give us directly, and a small amount that is collected automatically when you visit:
- Details you submit through our forms — for example your name, email address, organisation, role, and anything you write when you register interest or express interest in joining our board or advisory group.
- Technical data recorded by our hosting provider and content delivery network when pages load — IP address, browser type, operating system, and the pages requested.
- Correspondence you send us by email.
We do not run advertising trackers and we do not sell personal information.
3How we use it
We use your information to:
- Respond to your enquiry or expression of interest.
- Tell you when we launch and when our guides and other resources are published, if you have asked to hear from us.
- Consider you for a board, advisory, or team role, where you have applied for one.
- Operate, secure, and improve this website.
- Meet our legal obligations.
4Who handles your data
We use a small number of service providers to run this site, and your information may pass through their systems:
- Tally (tally.so) hosts our forms. Information you enter is stored by Tally and then by us. See the Tally privacy policy.
- Cloudflare hosts and protects this website and may set cookies necessary for security. See the Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Some scripts and libraries this site uses are loaded from public content delivery networks (cdnjs, jsDelivr, unpkg), which receive your IP address when they serve those files.
Some of these providers store data outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
5Storage and security
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. Access is limited to people who need it to do the work described above. We keep information only as long as we need it for those purposes or as the law requires.
6Disclosure
We do not disclose your personal information to third parties except to the service providers above, where you have consented, or where the law requires or permits it — for example in response to a lawful request from a court or regulator.
7Cookies
We do not set cookies of our own. Cloudflare may set cookies that are strictly necessary to protect the site from abuse; see its cookie policy. Your browser can be set to refuse cookies, though parts of the site may then not work.
8Communications
If you register interest we will email you about our launch and our resources. Every such email includes a way to unsubscribe. We will not add you to any list you did not ask to join.
9Access, correction, and complaints
You may ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, ask us to delete it, or withdraw your consent to hear from us, by writing to us at the address below. We will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
10Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always at this address, with its effective date at the top. Material changes will be noted on this page.
